In recent years, hyaluronic acid has been a very fashionable and popular ingredient used in aesthetic medicine and cosmetics. From home care, to beauty treatments and aesthetic medicine – hyaluronic acid is certainly one of the most used ingredients with which we improve and rejuvenate our appearance. Why? About this in today’s post.
When looking at hyaluronic acid, it is worth knowing its origin, composition and properties in order to fully understand its action and possibilities of use. Well, hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that occurs naturally in human skin and its main property, which we use in aesthetic medicine, is the ability to bind very large amounts of water. As a result, tissues containing large amounts of this ingredient are better moisturized and toned. Unfortunately, in the process of skin aging, the amount of hyaluronic acid contained in human skin decreases, which results in sagging and lack of moisture, i.e. visible wrinkles. Medical or cosmetic hyaluronic acid is a synthetic preparation, which significantly reduces the risk of allergic reactions in its operation. Using hyaluronic acid to fight the signs of aging skin as a moisturizer by injecting it into the deep layers of the skin.
The course of the procedure is not complicated, nor does it require special preparation on the part of the patient or a strictly defined recovery period. In the first stage of the procedure, a local anesthetic ointment is applied to the skin to be injected. In special cases, for people who are extremely sensitive to pain, deeper anesthesia can be used to improve the patient’s comfort. Hyaluronic acid is in the form of a gel, which is characterized by very high flexibility and plasticity. After injection into the treatment site, e.g. into a wrinkle, hyaluronic acid binds water molecules while increasing its volume and filling the wrinkle. This process taking place in the skin visibly smoothes the treated area and gives a very natural effect.
Treatments with the use of hyaluronic acid can be used for various purposes, depending on the place of application:
- facial skin – filling and smoothing wrinkles and furrows,
- lips – filling, augmentation and modeling (you can read more about this procedure in the previous post)
- nose correction,
- correction of the mandible line,
- raising eyebrows,
- removing dark circles under the eyes,
- volumetry (volumetric filling, e.g. of cheeks or temples),
- correction of asymmetry,
- improving the condition and appearance of the skin of the neck and cleavage.
The effects of the treatment are visible almost immediately and the treatment itself does not require the patient to give up everyday activities. It is worth waiting a few days for the full, final effect, because after this time any slight swelling or redness may disappear. The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes, while the anesthetic is administered one hour before the procedure begins. Filling wrinkles with hyaluronic acid gives an effect that lasts from 9 to 12 months, but each subsequent treatment extends this period. The time of the visible result largely depends on the age, skin condition, natural conditions of each patient, but also on the lifestyle – regular hydration of the body, a healthy diet, proper care. Smoking, alcohol, exposure to the sun without proper photoprotection, poor diet and not drinking enough water adversely affect the condition of our skin and the effect of the treatment may last much shorter in this case. These are important elements to which we sensitize our patients, regardless of age, skin condition or treatments performed, they are elements that should be remembered by everyone who cares about their appearance and health. After the effects of the treatment persist, the injected hyaluronic acid is completely absorbed by the body and the treatment can be repeated.
Safety of the procedure of filling wrinkles with hyaluronic acid determines its performance by a professional, i.e. an aesthetic medicine doctor, who will properly perform the procedure and accurately diagnose the patient’s needs and select the treatment properly. At the Dr Stachura Clinic, the hyaluronic acid filling procedure is always carried out using world-class proven and certified medical products, including Neauvia, Juvederm, Restylane, Stylage, Teosyal preparations.
Areas where hyaluronic acid can be used to fill in wrinkles and furrows and which are critical to the signs of skin aging include:
- temples,
- dark circles under the eyes,
- cheekbones and cheeks,
- nasolabial folds,
- mouth and corner of the mouth,
- lion’s wrinkle optional (best results when using botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid)
- neck,
- cleavage,
- hands.
The hyaluronic acid filling treatment, despite its high level of safety, has contraindications that should be remembered when deciding to perform it. Before starting the procedure, each doctor should make a detailed interview with the patient, asking about specific issues for a given situation. These include issues related to pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The treatment of filling wrinkles and furrows with hyaluronic acid can give amazing effects of quick and lasting skin renewal. The vision of a rejuvenated and flexible skin in places that are most exposed to the visible signs of the passage of time is a great motivation and dream of our patients who use this solution more and more often. We recommend hyaluronic acid to everyone who wants to rejuvenate their appearance and improve the condition of the skin while maintaining a natural effect.
